Remembering Martin from Wright State University
I was Martin’s colleague and supervisor here at Wright State University, where we worked closely together up until the time he passed away. Martin was one of the first people hired into our new group last January. We were excited to have someone with his impressive research pedigree and breadth of background (from psycholinguistics to machine learning to neurophysiology) joining our team. From the start, Martin stood out as a deep and independent thinker, as well as a conscientious scientist whose integrity was obvious to anyone who worked with him. He had a special talent for going against the grain without ever being abrasive. I only knew Martin for a year, but that was long enough to appreciate his unfailingly good nature: I can honestly say that in all our many discussions, I never heard him utter an unkind word about anyone. His talents and one-of-a-kind personality will be missed.

Thank you Brad. Martin truly put his all into his work even when he was in the hospital with pneumonia he forced me to bring his laptop and I had to coax him to rest instead of write. He was just feeling comfortable in the position recently and really feeling as though he was contributing a lot to the organization. He always worries about you and tried his darnest to step up the plate and take on responsibility.
Thank you for this post.
Thank you for posting this, Brad. I think that I spoke to you or one of your colleagues when you were thinking of hiring Martin. I’m so glad that he was in an environment with colleagues who appreciated his imaginative and brilliant mind.
